The
Harmony
House
The founder of and designer behind Harmony House Digital. I’m a former music teacher turned UX designer with a soft spot for small businesses with big personalities.
I’ve always felt myself pulled in an unconventional direction when it came to what I’d do with my life. I followed my love of music and singing through college and into a career as a choir director, but my creative interests have always stretched beyond the choir room. Sewing, painting, embroidery, scrapbooking, bullet journaling—you name it, I’ve probably tried it (and left it buried in my graveyard of semi-abandoned hobbies).
After a few challenging years in the classroom, I realized it was time to find a career that felt a little more me. Cue approximately a thousand Google searches along the lines of “good jobs for former teachers” and “how to make money when all I want to do is make art.”
Somewhere along the way, I stumbled into user experience (UX) design, and things started to click. Here was a field that brought together my love of design and aesthetics with everything I’d learned about how people think, learn, and interact with the world. I dove into courses, earned certifications, and started figuring out how to turn this new interest into a career.
Meet
Then came my first website project. A friend needed help with their new business, and I needed real-world experience for my portfolio (if you’ve been on the job hunt, you know the struggle). Their site was on Squarespace, so I rolled up my sleeves and got to work learning the platform, improving the design, user experience, search engine optimization (SEO), accessibility, and all the little details that level up a DIY site.
When the business expanded into online education, I was excited to help figure out the best way to bring the course to life, too. I found myself neglecting my endless (and fruitless) job search grind in favor of figuring out how to design cool effects for the course pages or finding the perfect photo or layout to highlight the course content. That project grew into more than 30 custom pages, an evolving business website, and my first paying client.
More importantly though, it gave me the skills and confidence to build something of my own.
And so, Harmony House Digital was born.
Now, I’m so thankful for everything my winding path has taught me: creative instinct, a knack for making things make sense, and a growing toolkit of UX and SEO expertise, to create thoughtful, beautiful websites for creative businesses. From custom sites to templates and VIP design days, I get to help bring your vision to life in ways that thrill you and your users, while also helping your business run and grow.
Turns out, all those years of making things, teaching people, and Googling my way through the unknown were leading somewhere after all.
